Hello, I’m Mike.
My desire is to serve God by bringing restoration to marriages in crisis, and hope to the doubting, the grief-stricken, the anxious, the angry, and the addicted. I have a pastor’s heart and love having a front-row seat to see what God is going to do in each of the lives of those I have the privilege to counsel.
I earned my Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and have a Master of Education. I have served as the Pastor of Biblical Counseling at two large churches in Illinois and Denver. My heart is to serve and help equip the local church. I have made it the aim of Soul Care Spokane to counsel and train others to care for men, women, and families as an extension of pastoral ministry in their local church.
Bev, my wife of 33 years, and I moved to Spokane in 2021 to support my daughter and son-in-law in planting Haven Bible Church, a gospel-centric church in Spokane, WA, where I am an elder. Bev and I have three grown daughters, three sons-in-law, and three very sweet grandchildren. I love God’s word, hiking/backpacking, reading, and a great cup of coffee.

If I cannot find joy in Christ and serve His people then how can I expect to help others?! The character of the counselor is critical. I have had the experience of counseling secular marriage counselors who during the day counseled other married couples but then went home to their own marriage that was a hot steaming tire fire. My marriage matters to you, my integrity matters to those I counsel. I grew up in a small town in Northern Illinois so I have simple Midwestern values, including faith, family, and hard work.

I take a kettle, grinder, scale and Chemex with me on vacation. // 3 of my favorites are The Sound of Music, Cheaper By The Dozen, and Father of the Bride.
